Studio

Nestled in the Tamar Valley, an area of outstanding natural beauty between Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor, Moor Studio is a small, friendly, design-led creative studio, offering architectural and interior services.

The approach to design is individual, responding to clients’ needs, location, and environment, with considered solutions that are well-crafted, detailed, and thoughtful.

The aim is to work together to realise the clients’ aspirations, alongside other professionals and specialists, in a collaborative and responsive approach.

The ambition is to create elegant and simple design solutions that meet the clients’ brief and expectations, while also being contextual, rooted in place, sustainable, low-energy focused, and environmentally responsive. A focus on solutions that benefit the environment, and touch the ground lightly through the creative re-use of existing buildings, sensitive consideration of new buildings, careful material selection, embracing innovative and proven sustainable approaches and technologies.

All aspects of a project receive the same attention, enthusiasm, and care, ranging from concept/ feasibility studies to unlock the potential of a site, building, or space, to complete architectural and interior design services, from defining the brief through to construction and completion.

Taking inspiration from the granite tors of Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor.

Experience

Moor Studio was established in 2025 by Rob Hill, a RIBA-chartered architect with over 20 years of experience in the design and construction industry. After 18 years at Walters & Cohen Architects in London, Rob progressed from architect to director, and has been involved and led numerous award winning projects. He set up Moor Studio to realise his ambition of running a design-led practice in the southwest, where he's lived since 2016.

Rob graduated from the University of Plymouth with a degree in architecture in 2001, followed by a post-graduate diploma in architecture and landscape design in 2003. He qualified as an architect in 2007, completing his studies alongside working at Gillespie Yunnie Architects. He has been involved in various projects, from domestic to residential to commercial. His experience at Walters & Cohen Architects specialised in educational projects - from nursery to university and from education buildings to boarding accommodation.

Rob has in-depth knowledge and experience across all project stages, from master planning and feasibility studies to brief development, planning, detailed design, procurement, construction, and post-occupancy.

He is familiar with traditional and design-and-build contracts and has extensive experience as a project architect, lead consultant, and contract administrator. His experience includes heritage projects ranging from Grade I to Grade II listed buildings.
